Overcoming your fears

May 13, 2010 in Mental Health

“You can conquer almost any fear if you will only make up your mind to do so. For remember, fear doesn’t exist anywhere except in the mind.” Dale Carnegie

Remember, feelings are not facts. Feelings are reactions based on our beliefs. Our thoughts and perceptions shape our feelings which then shapes our behaviors. For example, a person who fears flying thinks that it is dangerous (beliefs) so he gets scared (feelings) then decides never to get on a plane (behaviors). Overcoming your fears must start with changing your perceptions about certain things. Taking control of your fears, rather than them controlling you is the goal of cognitive behavioral therapy.
